Memorial Day Weekend 2013

For me, I consider summer to officially start on Memorial Day Weekend. For weeks, I’ve been saying, it’s almost here! Memorial Day Weekend is almost here! With dreams of sunshine, live music, sports, and friends every evening. Hence, I had big plans for my Memorial Day weekend. Sleeping in, baseball, sunshine, outdoor festivals, live music. It was going to be heavenly. Instead all I got was a cold and a lot of rain. What happened to the Memorial Day Weekend I’d been dreaming of for weeks???

To be honest though, it really wasn’t much of a bummer weekend overall. I mean I saw the new Star Trek movie (loved it BTW)  went to a Mariners game, started the newest season of Arrested Development, started/finished an entire season of the show Copper and made it rain at rack, nordies and forever 21. Yes, feel free to judge me and my generation for not watching shows as they come out weekly, but instead binge watch them on Netflix in one weekend  *cough day*cough. I’m sorry, but I need the instant gratification of knowing what happens all at once. Plus, I have such a short attention span, if I had to wait a week for another episode I’d likely lose interest.

Anyway, while all of that was happening, something else was happening too. I was getting hit with a cold. Not fun. It started Friday night, thought it was allergies, still acting up some Saturday, but then I felt fine. Sunday I was miserable, likely a side effect of Saturday and the cold, so I spent the day sleeping and taking it easy. Monday though, sweet glorious Monday, I woke up feeling great and on top of the world. I met up with one of my friends downtown to do a little bit of shopping and two hours later I was miserable, my nose was running, I felt tired, and I was turning into a hot sweaty mess. Which are all things that happen to me when I’m sick. I went home and emailed work that I wouldn’t be in today and went to bed. I woke up today feeling just as miserable, but by this evening I had advanced to the “as l0ng as I lay still and don’t move I feel great” stage.  Needless to say I’m also taking tomorrow off as well.

So what’s the point of this long winded post? Just because it wasn’t the weekend I’d been dreaming of and I ended up with a nasty cold, doesn’t mean it still wasn’t great. Welcome to Summer 2013!

Back from Sabbatical

It’s been a long time since I put anything on here, almost five months exactly! What a crazy 5 months it’s been!! Can you believe it’s almost June, which means 2013 is half over??? Where has the year gone?

Alot’s happened since the last time I put anything up on here. I applied for a few new jobs, and didn’t get them. I went to New Jersey for a month for work, I’ve gone to a few Sounders games, made some new friends and caught up with old friends. I learned to knit and also re did the running class I took last year. I finally went hiking in Washington and I’ve been trying new places all around the city.

If I were to go into any detail at all on those items, this post would be incredibly long. Instead, I just want to say that I’m glad to be writing on here again. I had a lot of things in my life this winter (this blog included) that I was supposed to be doing for enjoyment, but never did because they went from fun to not fun. Two of the three things were groups that I was volunteering with and have since cut ties with, and the third was this blog, which I took a 5 month sabbatical from and am now ready to get back into the swing of it.  To be honest, I have no idea how often I’ll update this, but I can promise I won’t go 5 months with nothing for a while.

The Silver Lining’s Playbook

Silver linings playbook

The Silver Linings Playbook is hands down my favorite book I read in 2012. I hadn’t heard of it until I began seeing the previews for the movie. While I still didn’t have any interest in reading the book, I knew that I wanted to see the movie. My mom and I saw the movie together while I was home for the holidays and I loved it. After seeing the movie, I really wanted to read the book!

The day after I saw the movie was also the day that I flew back to Seattle, and would have long flights and long layovers. Which was the perfect setting to read a book. When my plane arrived at O’Hare, I checked out the first bookstore I could find in the airport and grabbed this book. I was so happy that I could find it, and began reading it immediately. I read the entire book almost straight through (minus the time boarding the plane).

I really enjoyed the book and the movie.  They both follow Pat, as he’s been “away” and deals with his adjustment to life back home and follows him as he puts his life back together.

I liked them both equally and this is one of the first books I can say that about. If you’re looking for a good book to read or movie to watch, I highly recommend this one!
