Weekend Wrap Up

Hey Guys!

This past weekend was pretty great. Very nice and relaxing and a lot of fun! I kicked it off on Friday by meeting up with my friend Jessica and her friend at Cellars for happy hour. I love happy hour, because it’s much cheaper to go out and restaurants usually aren’t as packed. Eating out’s expensive, especially in a city, so cheap happy hour is awesome.

Happy Hour at CellarsAfter happy hour, I headed up the hill to Ltd. Art Gallery to meet another friend at an art gallery opening for a collection based off of the films of the Coen Brothers. For those of you not familiar with them, they have done movies such as True Grit, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Oh Brother Where Art Thou. I’d never been to an exhibit opening at a gallery before, so it was pretty cool to check it out. In honor of The Big Lebowski, they had free white russians all night. The dude totally abided.

The most exciting thing about the gallery opening is that I bought my first piece of art! (Don’t worry, it was cheap!)  It’s a really cool screen print  of the main character from the move A Serious Man. I actually haven’t seen that film, but I loved the print and had to have it. Now, I just need to get it framed!

Saturday I took a long walk in my neighborhood ( I was out for almost two hours!) before I headed into Pioneer Square to meet up with some friends for the Seattle Sounders game. I’ve said it before, but I absolutely love soccer games. I couldn’t ever imagine that I’d have as much fun at a soccer game as I do, but I really enjoy them. People get really into the games, and they stand, sing and cheer the whole time. It’s really fun. This was my fourth game of the season. I got seats with five of my friends as part of the Sounders 4 pack. You get a ticket to the four most popular games of the year for really cheap. Getting really cheap tickets also mean that you’re fairly high up, although I must say I was still pleased with our seats.

I closed out my weekend with a lazy Sunday that included grocery shopping and a dinner party before watching the Game of Thrones season finale. I’m not going to lie, I’ve become obsessed with Game of Thrones. I even started reading the books! I finished the first one last week, all 800+ pages of it. Although to be honest, I’m not sure if I enjoy the books or all the fan responses, tumblrs, and memes based off of it more. I think hipster John Snow may be my favorite. He worships the old gods, you’ve probably never heard of them.

Anyway enough about my love of Game of Thrones. I need to talk about dinner. My friend Caitlin invited six of us to come over for dinner and to watch the finale. She went all out on the spread, including an awesome antipasti platter of meats, veggies, and marinated veggies, an awesome cheese plate…and LASAGNA. It was amazing. I haven’t had that good of lasagna in a long time. Then, to top it all off, she made strawberry basil cupcakes. I’d never had that combo before and didn’t know what to expect, but they were delicious. I need to get her recipe and make them again!

Hope you all had a great weekend!

Back from Sabbatical

It’s been a long time since I put anything on here, almost five months exactly! What a crazy 5 months it’s been!! Can you believe it’s almost June, which means 2013 is half over??? Where has the year gone?

Alot’s happened since the last time I put anything up on here. I applied for a few new jobs, and didn’t get them. I went to New Jersey for a month for work, I’ve gone to a few Sounders games, made some new friends and caught up with old friends. I learned to knit and also re did the running class I took last year. I finally went hiking in Washington and I’ve been trying new places all around the city.

If I were to go into any detail at all on those items, this post would be incredibly long. Instead, I just want to say that I’m glad to be writing on here again. I had a lot of things in my life this winter (this blog included) that I was supposed to be doing for enjoyment, but never did because they went from fun to not fun. Two of the three things were groups that I was volunteering with and have since cut ties with, and the third was this blog, which I took a 5 month sabbatical from and am now ready to get back into the swing of it.  To be honest, I have no idea how often I’ll update this, but I can promise I won’t go 5 months with nothing for a while.

Back to Blogging

I’ve been majorly slacking on this blog for the past few months, but that’s okay because I’ve been enjoying life! November and December were crazy busy for me, with lots of travel home for Thanksgiving and Christmas, hanging out with friends, working hard, and my sister getting married. With all of this going on, I just didn’t have it in me to do anything else. Mainly write anything for this blog.

After the madness that was the past couple months, I have been looking forward to January, as a time to detox from the holidays, and to enjoy doing nothing. I didn’t quite get my wish, because as soon as I got back to Seattle, I got a wicked cold that knocked me out for a week. 😦

Which meant, that after the holidays, and not working the week after the holidays because I was still off from my trip home, New Years Day and being sick, my work tasks were overflowing. Not to mention a lot of projects that I had to catch up on at home. This past week was busy, but it went fast and I enjoyed every minute of it.

This weekend, I had plans to go to dinner and go to the movies, and didn’t want to add anything else to that. I was actually looking forward to sitting at home on Saturday! 🙂 Mainly because next weekend is a jam packed weekend for me. I also wanted to stay home and do some home organization projects. Nerd alert-I know! However, I am happy to report that I have dinners made and frozen for the week, re organized my closet, AND re organized my kitchen cabinet.

Lame, but I always feel better about things and a little calmer when my personal space is organized. I’m also excited to say that I’ve made a plan for this blog and will hopefully get back to updating it on the regular.

In the meantime, happy Sunday!

Back in Seattle Again

Anyone have a vague idea what song lyric I’m referencing with that title??? Maybe try replacing Seattle with “The Saddle”…Anyone, enough of that nonsense. After 12 days of Indiana, I finally arrived back home to Seattle late Monday night. Tuesday I decided to work from home when I woke up since I’d mainly be going through email all day. I was definitely right with the emails. 8 hours yesterday and most of today and now I’m finished going through them.

Today was my first day back in the office and it was nice to be back. Today was the day that our office put together gift baskets for women at a homeless shelter here in Seattle. I didn’t have anything with me, so I got to take a mid morning walk up to Target. This was great, because the weather was really nice today, the sun was even shining this morning!!! After I picked up my items for the gift baskets(shampoo, conditioner, hand sanitizer, gum, qtip/vaseline combo pack, socks, hair masks/treatments…I went a little crazy..) I decided to look in the holiday department for a Christmas tree.

Last night I was sitting in my apartment and realized that I wanted a Christmas tree. I guess I think it would make things more festive. I tried talking myself out of it since I’m leaving to go home again in less than three weeks and will be out of town for work next Monday and Tuesday, but it didn’t work. I still really wanted one. So,like any city dweller in an apartment with no storage, I decided to get a small table top tree. When I got to Target, I was sad to find out that they were all sold out. Bummer. Maybe I’ll go on the hunt this weekend, or maybe I’ll just be the apartment without a Christmas tree this year??

While I may not have a Christmas tree this year, I did see something on another blog today that gave me an idea. Instead of doing an advent wreath, this person did 24 days of activites for her and her husband that were all Christmas themed. It got me thinking that instead of looking for a tree, maybe I’ll do that instead. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Anyway, this post is starting to get in the rambling stage.

Have a great night!
