This past weekend was pretty great. Very nice and relaxing and a lot of fun! I kicked it off on Friday by meeting up with my friend Jessica and her friend at Cellars for happy hour. I love happy hour, because it’s much cheaper to go out and restaurants usually aren’t as packed. Eating out’s expensive, especially in a city, so cheap happy hour is awesome.
After happy hour, I headed up the hill to Ltd. Art Gallery to meet another friend at an art gallery opening for a collection based off of the films of the Coen Brothers. For those of you not familiar with them, they have done movies such as True Grit, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, and Oh Brother Where Art Thou. I’d never been to an exhibit opening at a gallery before, so it was pretty cool to check it out. In honor of The Big Lebowski, they had free white russians all night. The dude totally abided.
The most exciting thing about the gallery opening is that I bought my first piece of art! (Don’t worry, it was cheap!) It’s a really cool screen print of the main character from the move A Serious Man. I actually haven’t seen that film, but I loved the print and had to have it. Now, I just need to get it framed!
Saturday I took a long walk in my neighborhood ( I was out for almost two hours!) before I headed into Pioneer Square to meet up with some friends for the Seattle Sounders game. I’ve said it before, but I absolutely love soccer games. I couldn’t ever imagine that I’d have as much fun at a soccer game as I do, but I really enjoy them. People get really into the games, and they stand, sing and cheer the whole time. It’s really fun. This was my fourth game of the season. I got seats with five of my friends as part of the Sounders 4 pack. You get a ticket to the four most popular games of the year for really cheap. Getting really cheap tickets also mean that you’re fairly high up, although I must say I was still pleased with our seats.
I closed out my weekend with a lazy Sunday that included grocery shopping and a dinner party before watching the Game of Thrones season finale. I’m not going to lie, I’ve become obsessed with Game of Thrones. I even started reading the books! I finished the first one last week, all 800+ pages of it. Although to be honest, I’m not sure if I enjoy the books or all the fan responses, tumblrs, and memes based off of it more. I think hipster John Snow may be my favorite. He worships the old gods, you’ve probably never heard of them.
Anyway enough about my love of Game of Thrones. I need to talk about dinner. My friend Caitlin invited six of us to come over for dinner and to watch the finale. She went all out on the spread, including an awesome antipasti platter of meats, veggies, and marinated veggies, an awesome cheese plate…and LASAGNA. It was amazing. I haven’t had that good of lasagna in a long time. Then, to top it all off, she made strawberry basil cupcakes. I’d never had that combo before and didn’t know what to expect, but they were delicious. I need to get her recipe and make them again!
Hope you all had a great weekend!
This weekend was pretty mellow around here. I’m still not 100% since my cold, so I decided to take things nice and easy. Friday night I visited Redbox and had a movie marathon, where I watched Les Mis, The Hobbit, and Star Trek all in a row. Pretty exciting stuff eh? Saturday I hit up a huge outdoor yard sale on the hill above my house. I didn’t have too much luck, but I did find a really cool case, that to be honest I’m not quite sure what it is, but it looks pretty. I was also in a bit of baking frenzy, as I made homemade pizza, with an actual homemade crust on Friday, and then Saturday and today, I made bread. You can find the recipes that I used here.
I spent this afternoon cleaning around the apartment before heading out on a nice long walk. It was nice to be out, as I haven’t felt like going for a walk in over a week and I was long overdue. Plus, the view was pretty nice!
Anyway, I’m off to finish up a couple things before Game of Thrones starts! I don’t want the season to end next week!
Fall is officially back in Seattle which means one thing, rain. This weekend it rained, rained some more, rained a little bit more, and just for good measure, rained again. To be honest, I didn’t mind it. I actually kind of liked it, but in the sense of the first time it snows it’s really pretty and you like it, but after a couple months when the snow is all black and gray you just want it to be done. Talk to me in a couple months and I’m sure I’ll be hating it.
This weekend was the most social I’ve been in a long time. I’ve had a lot going on and have been a bit of a hermit, but this weekend I got out and about. Friday night I met up with some friends for dinner at Dicks, which is a Seattle staple. It’s one of those burger joints where you can only get the burgers how they make them and all they have are burgers, fries, and shakes. It’s also super cheap. It’s one of those places where if you eat once every couple months it’s good, but any more than that and your pushing your luck. Or if you eat it drunk. Then it’s REALLY good. After our delightful dinner, we headed across the street to see the movie Argo. It was great. I loved seeing it and really enjoyed it overall. Highly recommend it.
Saturday I met up with a friend for lunch before we went on a massive shopping adventure. Well, it wasn’t that massive but we went to a lot of places and I got a lot of stuff. It was mostly boring things, like sheets, toothpaste, etc. However, I was thrilled that I was able to find a shirt for my sister’s wedding rehearsal/rehearsal dinner and when I got home I found shoes online for the wedding. The shoes surprised me, because the brand name is Kelly and Kate. Which has significance as my name is Kellie and my sister’s name is Kate. What are the chances??
Today started off pretty low key. I spent the morning working on stuff for a group I’m now the president of. I’m working on developing a board, planning social events, and other random tasks. I also had to get a newsletter out which takes quite a bit of time to write and edit, but overall I enjoy doing that. I headed downtown around 3 to run a couple errands before our monthly book club. This month we read Carrie by Stephen King. I really liked this book and so did a lot of other people. We had a big turnout and a pretty lively discussion. Sometimes when we have books that not a lot of people enjoyed it can be hard to get the conversation moving, but not this month. Our next book is going to be Incendiary.
After book club, the rain was only a slight drizzle so I was able to walk the 20 minutes to the grocery store without getting too wet. Now I’m making dinner before watching Once Upon a Time and reading before bed. My current read? Frankenstein. I’m loving it so far! Classic literature can be intimidating at times, but so far this book is very easy to read. I’ll have to do a recap when I finish.
Have a great week!
